Dr. Mary Harper Scholarship 2019

APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 23, 2019

Amount: $5,000

Sponsor: Charlotte Chapter of The Links Incorporated

Purpose: The scholarship is designed for a senior high school African American student graduating from Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Schools who will be a full time student attending a four year college/university.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Graduating female high school senior of African American or African diaspora culture
2. Merit as demonstrated by past leadership, special talents and aptitudes, and school and community involvement.
3. Comparative scholastic data such as aptitude and achievement test Scores and class rank:Additionally, the scholarship recipient must:

   1. Be accepted and enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program.

   2. Have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.0.

   3. Complete the scholarship application and submit with two (2) letters of recommendation from teachers, coaches, community leaders, or employers.

   4. Provide with application, an official transcript and a statement of official aptitude scores (SAT or ACT), if not included on transcript.

   5. Recent head and shoulder photo (optional).

   6. Be available during May for an interview with the Charlotte Chapter of The Links, Inc. Scholarship Committee.

Application Requirements:

Applicants must submit:

1. Completed scholarship application including an essay addressing the following: What are your strengths and weaknesses? What are your most important achievements in school and in your community? Give a brief description of your hobbies, interests, sports, volunteer work and paid employment, if any. What are your future plans and goals? State the reason(s) for applying for this scholarship. (No more than 800 words).
2. Two Letters of recommendation from teachers, employers, etc.
3. Current high school transcript
4. Proof of an undergraduate admissions letter
5. Test scores
6. Recent head and shoulder photograph (optional)
